This
weekend we are celebrating the baptism of
the Lord. This is the day, by tradition,
that the Christmas season comes to an end.
However, if we think of God’s great
gift to all of mankind Christmas would be
celebrated in our hearts always. It is the
Father’s gift to the world, His only
begotten Son, Jesus Christ.
After the death, resurrection and ascension
of His Son, we received another gift. The
Father and Son gave us is the Holy Spirit,
three in one. God takes up his dwelling in
us all who believe and have faith in God.
In our baptism we become heirs to the kingdom
of heaven. We have a share in the Divine
Life by receiving the Divine Love within
us.
As we celebrate the baptism of our Lord,
we are to celebrate our own baptism, renewing
our faith in God. We celebrate this Divine
Love within us by loving one another. Wives
love your husband; husbands love your wife;
parents love your children; children love
your parents; all of us love our neighbors;
and all love our enemies.
True love never demands but rather gives;
it never punishes but chastise; it never
is self centered but is open to all; it is
never oppressive but is uplifting; it is
never abusive but is always healing; love
is never imposing but is compromising without
diminishing our morals. Love never dies but
rather love is life itself. Great nations
collapse because these nations forget what
life is built upon and what life really is.
Love is never greedy but always giving and
sharing.
Let us celebrate our baptism by celebrating
that Divine Life within each of us. Now is
the time to recommit ourselves to God, to
one another and to our Church.
Happy baptism,
Fr. Glen
